WARRIORS OROCHI 4 Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch.

Well, I have done it, after lots of debating with I-self I did it! Over the weekend, I have purchased Warriors Orochi. I had been hesitant to buy it for a couple of reasons. There are other games I would also like to play that are also cheaper than this game. Some other games are coming out soon. Also, the Musou gaming style formula, it is one that, once you have played a game like this, you have pretty much played them all. I have played a lot of these games.

I have probably mentioned before, I have played the Dynasty/Samurai Warriors games since back in the PlayStation 2 days, Dynasty Warriors 3 being the first one, up to 9th (which it was a huge disappointment). Then, in between the regular games, you had the Extreme Legends editions and the Empires and the Orochi series, etc. There is a whole genre or series of games with the same formula and I have played a few of them like, ARSLAN: THE WARRIORS OF LEGEND, WARRIORS ALL-STARS, Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star, Fire Emblem Warriors and Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition. There is yet another game, kinda with the same formula that I belive it’s on the PS4 but I am waiting for the western release on the Switch which is Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers – so excited.

Anyhow, Warriors Orochi 4, like I said I was afraid that since I have played many of this type of game, that I would be bored or just play a little bit and put it to the side. Well, I am happy to report that, that has not being the case. I have been playing non-stop since I got it, I am enjoying this game with the same smile on my face as I remember enjoying DW3. Of course, it has come a long way since DW3, combat it’s a lot more fluid, you have more enemies on the screen which makes the hack and slashing through the field so satisfying. I am feeling right at home with this game. The strength of this game doesn’t lay in the story, especially on this one.

These two worlds, merged by an unknown entity, are again threatened. The controls are pretty easy to master, the action is good. In the previous games, you would select one hero and fight your way through thousands in battle, now, you have a team of three characters all with their unique abilities. I am kind of a one-man army mindset still, so even though I have three on my team, I pretty much use the same character. It plays well on handheld mode but I find it a wee bit better docked since there’s quite a lot going on on the screen. The voices in the game are all in Japanese, that doesn’t bother me except when I’m in battling my way through. There is a lot of interaction between different characters in the game and it is hard to pay attention to the text while you’re having fun hacking and slashing. I don’t think you can change the language, not sure.

Either way, I am having a blast with this game, it doesn’t require a lot of focus or too much thinking, which is excellent. Sometimes we need a “dumb” game, I am very delighted with my purchase.

Astral Chain for the Nintendo Switch.

I got this game back in…Was it last summer? Maybe, whenever it came out and I played a little bit of it then I had stopped. I can’t remember the exact reason, maybe another game had also been released then and shifted my attention away from it.

The gist of this game is basically this futuristic mega city in which you and your sister (the two playable characters) are members of this special Police task force. Members of this task force are equipped with sentient armaments called Legions. With the Legions you are able you see and fight these otherworldly beings called chimeras.

So, a few days ago I picked it up again. Started right from the beginning just to refresh my memory. The game starts off with some action fallowed with some slow buildup. But now that I have pretty much done with all the semi-tutorial stuff, I am so sucked into this game. And the worse thing is that so far I haven’t had a “break” as in it is one thing after the other and you can’t stop playing because you’ve got to know what’s going to happen next! This last mission I played, I was thought for sure I was done and was gonna go back to HQ and “take a break”. NOPE!

I do like this though, games that keep me engaged and wanting to know what’s next. No chores! This game has a lot of cool fights and amazing cool looking finishing combos. Some amazing visuals and I love the art, it is very Anime-like. There’s also some puzzle elements to it but not Zelda like. As well of some investigative work, crime scenes and probably my least favorite part just because I much prefer the punchy-punchy, smashy-smashy - 😅.

The detective part reminds me a lot of the Arkham Asylum games, it’s pretty much the same deal. So if you’ve played those games then you’ll be pretty familiar with investigating crime scenes. With the difference that instead of looking fur a killer, most likely will be some nasty monster from another dimension.

Update: no wonder why i am loving this game, these are the same people who made Nier: Automata

Devil May Cry - Nintendo Switch

I’ve been playing Devil May Cry 👿 😢 on the Nintendo switch for the past two days. Graphics don’t hold up very well but I have been having a lot of fun replying this classic game. I think I own the HD collection on the PlayStation 4 but, I rather play on the switch these days.

Underwater controls suck and so does the camera. Other than that it’s still a lot of fun!

I still remember when I first got this game on the… PlayStation 2 I think it was? I remember my friend Juan B encouraged me to do so. I have become a fan of the franchise ever since.

Star Ocean First Departure R on the Nintendo Switch.

Star Ocean First Departure R It’s a remake of Star Ocean: First Departure from the PSP, which itself was a remake of the first Star Ocean for Super Nintendo. So it’s a remake of a remake? (Remakeception!!)

Anyway, I have been playing the heck out of this game for the past week or so (probably the past two weeks). And by heck I mean five hours of playing time, according to my save file. Five hours doesn’t sounds like a lot but it does feels like its been.

My only thing with this game is that, it’s a classic RPG, there’s no guidance except for some information of course through dialog with almost every NPC in the game. And if you step away from the game for a long while, good luck finding your way back into the game, since there isn’t a log system or anything that tells you what you did and what to do next. Or at least I haven’t found anything of the sorts. It reminds me of the days of Final Fantasy VII.

I am very impatient so I find myself YouTube-ing walkthroughs whenever I get stuck and find myself just wondering around like a yahoo and fighting random monsters for no reason other than xp and monies.

I have probably lost my touch with this type of game. Maybe is the reason I have never finished Breath of the Wild for example. Exploring and adventuring it’s something I lack patience for nowadays, I need the game to hold me by the hand and show me where to go and what to do next. I’ve become lazy.

Still I am enjoying the game, until I get to a point where I can’t either figure out what to do or how to beat a boss. Which at that point I will most likely rage-quit the game and damn it all out!

Remember when I said I needed a break from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey? Well, scratch that! It might be too early in the week to call it but I don’t think I’ll like anything this week as much as this.

I decided to dip my toes in The Fate of Atlantis DLC. It’s a three-part episodic story arc, I’m on arc (or episode if you will) one, Fields of Elysium. There’s so much to uncover and explore on this arc alone and again, another significantly huge map! I feel like I am playing a whole different game right now!

I am very positive I’ll be putting over a hundred hours on this game!

Assassins’s Creed Odyssey

I can’t put this game down! It has been almost a month since I’ve got it, for the Xbox One S, and just can’t, I can’t stop playing this game. The interesting thing is, that I actually own and had played this game before on another platform, the PS4. For whatever reason I really wanted it on the Xbox (maybe because of the achievements, or the fact that i had recently bought the Xbox) and it has been a very different experience so far. I have gotten into this game more than when I first played it on the PS4. (It also it glitches a lot more on the Xbox but that’s not here nor there 🤫)

On this play-through I’m exploring more and doing more of the side quests and extra missions, I am barely halfway the main storyline and I’m already at level 52 I believe. The world in this game is not just beautiful but also massive , it’s a huge world-map! And there’s so much to do and get lost in, I’m having a blast!

It has been a while since I have had this feeling of “I can’t wait to play when I get home”!! (Still I have to wait until everyone goes to sleep but you get the idea).

Overwatch

I know I’m late to the game but I just happened to pick this up today and so far, I like it a lot. There was also some “per-pressure” involved (two of my coworkers are currently playing the game) and the fact that the game was on sale so — had to!

I have only played for a couple of hours but I can already tell I’ll be spending a few hundred hours on this game, kinda like when I got into Destiny a while ago.

I started playing as Soilder: 76, in my opinion the most basic character. Basic in the sense that’s probably the best character to get familiar with the game specially you are familiar with first-person-shooters then this character will be very familiar. Obviously I don’t want to be stuck using only this character so I have been spending a some time in the training mode. This way I can experiment and get to know some of the other characters in the game, which there are about 30.

Katana ZERO

This game has been under my radar since its release on the Nintendo Switch. I finally went ahead and got it and I am not disappointed. This game is a lot of fun! There’s a little bit of a learning curve and at first it might seem a little difficult but so far I haven’t lost my coolness –– or my patience.

Octopath Traveler

I got this game I few weeks ago but it wasn’t until this week when I actually started it. Octopath Traveler it’s a new JRPG (Japanese Role Playing Game) by Square Enix for the Nintendo Switch. The game has eight characters and so far, most of the game is finding these eight characters and going through each of their stories (or chapters). At least this is what I have been doing so far.

Octopath reminds me a lot of old RPG games I used to play like Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger and Children of Mana (which it isn’t that old, 2006 if I recall). The combat it’s turn-based system, very similar to some of the games previously mentioned, nothing too complicated.

So far I have gone through the stories of seven of the characters, one more to go before moving on to the next chapter. I would say I have got roughly eight to ten hours of gameplay so far and it’s been fun. It is definitely a change of pace from what I have been previously playing, like Destiny 2. Will see how far I’ll go before I either get bored or rage-quit it!
